Safer Internet Use in the Classroom
Any teacher or school using social media will find this workshops covers the essentials on how to manage your professional reputation and that of your school when using social media. It also has valuable advice for those engaging in social media for personal as well as professional use. This course will be of interest to those who have already completed the course on Safer Internet Use in the Classroom.
Digital Images and Copyright in the Classroom
In this course, you will be introduced to tools and techniques that will help you to find royalty-free digital images and other resources to use in your classroom. You will learn and apply the conventions for citing and referencing digital resources. You will examine the basic principles of digital copyright as they apply to teaching and learning and devise activities to promote a greater respect for copyright from your students.
Finding Information Online for the Primary Classroom
In this course, you will learn how to find reliable, age-appropriate information online and develop techniques for evaluating the credibility of online information. You will be introduced to tools, such as Scoilnet, Scoilnet Learning Paths and World Book Online, that will help you to find and share useful information and resources. You will look at some search engines that have been developed to help children search online.
Using Online Tools in the Primary Classroom
In this course, you will be introduced to digital tools that you can use to create classroom-focused resources. You will also be shown websites that contain resources for teaching skills in literacy, numeracy, SEN and STEM education. You will be shown how to use online tools to create a short instructional video and to promote different skills and activities in your classroom.
Making Simple Videos:
·        Learn a variety of tips and tricks for making quick and simple videos.
·        This will be a hands on workshop with topics including:
·        Use photographs and video clips
·        Explore websites such as Animoto and Adobe Spark
·        Experiment with apps such as iMovie, Tellagami and Chatterpix
·        Embed videos on school website and blogs or link to social media
Introducing Coding to the Classroom (for beginners)
·        Explore websites that can be used to introduce coding to the classroom.
·        Identify how Scratch can be used to teach coding skills for junior and senior classes.
·        Experiment with the Scratch Junior App on the iPads as a starting point.
·        Use the Scratch website to create a simple project and learn how to create a teacher account and class usernames.
