ARTIST: Rebecca Massey
ARTISTIC DISCIPLINE: Visual Artist
Rebecca Massey is
an Australian-born Irish artist based in the West of Ireland. She graduated
with a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Sligo I.T. and an MSc in Film Making
from Staffordshire University & Filmbase in Dublin. After working as an
In-House Artist for a well known Arts and Graphics Supplies establishment,
freelancing as an Art Director on short and feature films and working as a
Festival Artist and Programme assistant with the Irish Film Institutes
Education Department, Rebecca returned to Sligo in 2017 where she now lives and
works in Sligo town. Rebecca has worked across a broad range of media, from
drawing and film production to installation and music, and has exhibited her
work in group shows around Ireland and the UK. ‘It’s All in Your Head’ a solo
show of her work was held in the Hyde Bridge Gallery Sligo in 2018. Working
mainly with digital and traditional drawing techniques, her figurative work
uses playful introspection and narrative as a means to communicate notions and
emotions of being with the viewer, essentially seeking to poke the darker side
of everyday life with a stick, then to run and hide beneath the sheets of
paper. Along with her day to day practice, Rebecca has created and facilitated
various children's
workshops for the IFI Family Film Festival, Cairde Festival, The Hyde Bridge
Gallery, Leitrim Libraries and Liber Bookshop.
