Primary Schools Debating Competition Information /training workshop

Over the past number of years, Schools in the Sligo Education Centre catchment area have taken part in the Primary Debating Ireland National Project. Feedback has been extremely positive. Participants will compete with other schools on a league basis culminating with a local winner. The Local winners will go forward to a Regional final. This is an extremely worthwhile project and we would encourage you to consider participating.

Schools wishing to participate in the debating project should complete the attached   application form
and return to Sligo Education Centre on or before Friday 12thOctober.

                                           Information and training will be provided for teachers by Concern Ireland Personnel
                                              Venue: Sligo Education Centre
                                              Date: 26th September - 4pm

It is important that all participating teachers attend the teacher training workshop where all the main areas in debating will be discussed.

Teachers will receive:
 Lesson plans on how to incorporate Debating into the classroom.
 Debating methodologies.
 Tips on how to approach motions with a class group.
 Advice on tackling development issues.
 New handbook with rules and regulations for the programme
Adjudicators will receive:
 Training into the structure of the Primary Debates competition.
 How to mark a debate
 Advice on tackling development issues.
 Tips on how to feedback criticism to young debaters.
 New handbook with rules and regulations for the programme
