🎶Are you a teacher who feels a bit apprehensive about teaching music in the primary classroom?🎶
You are not alone! Music can be a fun and engaging subject for both you and your students. We will explore how to make music an enjoyable part of your teaching routine.
Colette Brooks will start by introducing the building blocks of music—pulse, rhythm, and pitch—through simple and enjoyable activities like clapping games, body percussion, rhythm exercises, and singing. These activities are designed to cover all three strands of the music curriculum.
Next, she will explore the use of simple percussion instruments, including everyday classroom items, to enhance your music lessons. You'll learn how to incorporate these instruments into performing and composing activities, making music accessible and exciting for your students.
Colette will discuss how to seamlessly integrate music into your school day. Whether it's using music for classroom transitions, calm time, or introducing DEAL (Drop Everything And Listen), you'll find creative ways to incorporate a variety of music into your daily routine, covering the listening and responding strand of the curriculum.
Finally, we will look at music as a cross-curricular subject, showing you how it can tie in with art, storytelling, drama, history, geography, maths, science, and PE. This holistic approach will help you feel more confident and inspired to teach music, knowing that it can enrich many areas of your students' learning.
