An Introduction to Aistear
Planning and Organising for play and playful activities
This workshop will
Introduce you to Aistear and look at how some of the key ideas in Aistear can be used with the Primary School Curriculum.  
Describe and show how play can be used to support children’s learning in infant classrooms. Give guidelines on using the Aistear approach during the hour of child-led play/and using playful activities throughout the day
Explores what Aistear says about play including different types of play and introducing the idea of an hour of child-led play each day in single-grade and multi-grade classrooms. It will also offer practical ideas for creating a playful classroom and for planning space, resources and time

Language and Literacy through play and playful activities
This workshop will focus on
Supporting children’s language and literacy through child-led play and playful activities
Identifying ways to assess children’s language and literacy through play
Exploring how a play methodology can be used with the new Primary Language Curriculum
Looking at practical ideas for working with parents to support their children’s language and literacy

Monday March 25th      (Diamond Coast Hotel)
Thursday March 28th     (Sligo Education Centre)
Maths Through Play and playful activities
This workshop will explore in a practical, hands-on way how to use play to support math’s learning and development
It will focus on the following areas
Supporting children’s mathematical learning through child-led play and playful activities
Identifying ways to assess children’s mathematics through play
Looking at practical ideas for working with parents to support their children’s learning in mathematics.

Participants are asked to bring their Aistear Framework document to the workshops. Participants are invited to engage in active learning methodologies throughout all the Aistear workshops. All workshops focus on the role of the teacher in facilitating child-led play in the classroom.
