Using The Ocean to Get Creative with NUMERACY in the Classroom

The Explorers Education Programme, funded and supported by the Marine Institute is delighted to host a series of Teacher Webinars with Sligo Education Centre this Spring. Over 3 evenings we will explore how to bring the Ocean into your classroom, through Literacy, Numeracy and STEM, using the Explorers Education Programme resources and content.
- March 31st: Using The Ocean To Get Creative With Literacy In The Classroom
- April 28th: Using The Ocean To Get Creative With Numeracy In The Classroom
- May 12th: Using the Ocean to Get Creative with STEM in the Classroom
Teachers who attend all 3 events will receive an Explorers Resource Pack, posted directly to their school.
N.B. It is necessary to register for each workshop separately.
In this, the 2nd in the series, we will outline creative ways of using the ocean to engage and motivate students with numeracy in the classroom including:
Looking at shapes and patterns with shells,
Using ocean pictures to explore spatial awareness,
Methods for exploring measurements on the seashore and in the outdoor classroom
Examining data to investigate the issue of marine litter for environmental awareness and case.
This course will provide participants with creative ideas and teaching methodologies and provide updates on online content from www.explorers.ie
