Teaching Everyone’s Children:
How To Develop A Culturally Responsive Maths Classroom
March 1st (7pm)
Sorcha Browne, will explore what it means to teach maths in a culturally responsive way, by re-examining the traditional practices in mathematics teaching which do not meet the learning needs of ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse students.
Practical
activities and resources will be shared, and participants will be given
the tools to
- Evaluate their
own classroom environment
- Identify gaps in
diversity and representation
- Explore the use
of diverse picture books when teaching mathematics in the early years
- Develop
culturally responsive mathematics lessons and activities.
