Sligo Education Centre aims to provide support to teachers and the wider education community, and to be an accessible and welcoming place of learning, reflection and social interaction.
Welcome to our website, the aim of which is to provide an on-line service for the teachers of Sligo and surrounding areas.Through this website we hope to provide access to the Education Centre's resources and to keep teachers informed of up coming events and courses available to them here in the Sligo Education Centre.

Physical Education Primary Workshops more

In this practical 2-hour workshop we will explore the strand of Gymnastics in Primary Physical Education. We will practise how movement can be developed sequentially. The activities outlined are designed to promote skilful body management, an essential aspect of the overall movement education of the child. This is an active workshop, please dress accordingly.

Yoga In The  Classroom for teachers and SNA’S more
This workshop will:

  • Introduce the basic elements of yoga for children

  • Present a series of structured lessons for you to teach in your class

  • Outline the resources and strategies needed to successfully teach yoga to your class

An inquiry based approach to Shape and Space more
This seminar capitalises on the natural opportunities for integration between Shape and Space in the primary maths
curriculum and the wider STEM objectives. Participants will develop their spatial reasoning and visualisation skills
through practical activities that embody an inquiry based learning approach. Participants will also explore innovative
approaches to planning and assessing inquiry based learning lessons. Two teachers from a school will be allowed to
attend and substitute cover is available.

AISTEAR  Language & Literacy through Play & Playful Activities
This workshop will focus on:
Supporting children’s language and literacy through child-led and playful activities.
Identifying ways to assess children’s language and literacy through play.
Exploring how a play methodology can be used with the new Primary Language Curriculum.
Looking at practical ideas for working with parents to support their children’s language and literacy.
